Robbie Williams drove Take That co-stars barmy with rants about UFOs in studio

Robbie Williams drove his Take That bandmates barmy by lecturing them on aliens and UFOS.

It led Gary Barlow to describe the Rock DJ singer, 46, as a “bit mental” when they first got back together as a five-piece a decade ago.

Gary, 49, admitted having Robbie in the studio to record the album Progress after a 15-year absence was surreal.

He said: “That particular record was exciting for us because Robbie was back.

“But he was talking to us about bloody UFOs all day and we were like, ‘Who is this guy?’ In the loveliest way, he is definitely a bit mental.

“But it was bringing out this other side to us where we were showing Rob how good we were and he was showing us how good he was.”

Robbie Williams’ fans were recently left baffled after he turned into a hologram on Soccer Aid.

Many people said he looked bizarre and “resembled Gary Barlow” as the digital image of himself performed in a digital form.

He appeared as a hologram on the show moments after chatting to host Dermot O’Leary via video link from the comfort of his home in Los Angeles.

Robbie explained he couldn’t be at the charity event in person due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

He said: “This year’s been one of the weirdest years on record. For months I was thinking to myself, ‘I’ve got soccer aid at least I’ve got soccer aid’.

“But I went on holiday and we got put on a travel ban, so I can’t be there but it’s given me the moment to experience it how everybody else experiences it.”

As he performed a duet with The Struts on their new single, Strange Days, viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One said: “What the hell have I just witnessed? Looks like they’ve just copy & pasted Robbie Williams into that performance.”

While another penned: “Robbie Williams is looking like Gary Barlow.”

“Robbie Williams is doing a strange Obi Wan Kenobi hologram impression and what seems to be a Noel Fielding lookalike singing is still the weirdest thing on my television #SoccerAid,” tweeted another.
