Strictly's Gorka says Maisie's Cha Cha led to dance-off as it's 'hardest dance'

Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez has spoken out after he and celebrity partner Maisie Smith saw themselves in the infamous dance-off.

Despite being the bookies favourite to win the dancing competition, Maisie and Gorka were forced to dance to save their position in the competition.

The duo had been tasked with dancing the Cha Cha during last week’s live episode. a decision which he may now be regretting.

Appearing on Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two, Gorka addressed their routine which saw them compete against Max George and Dianne Buswell.

“Do you know what? All the pros say, ‘The Samba is very hard’, or, ‘The Jive is very hard.’

“But the Cha Cha, it’s a very tricky dance, especially for the females with the heels, you know?” he told host Zoe Ball.

Gemma Atkinson’s boyfriend went on to say: “In the Samba, you can do shimmies or in the Jive, you can do lots of kicks and flicks, you can get away with it.

“In the Cha Cha, there’s a lot of straight legs but you have to bend them and keep those legs sharp but then, you have to move the body!”

Despite being the second-highest scorers with a whopping 24 out of a possible 30, he added: “There’s a lot of things going on in there! And there are only four days (to prepare), you know.”

This weekend, the pair will be battling the Salsa, but it appears Maisie isn’t as prepared as she would expect.

“I still don’t know it at all! The eight counts I do know, I’m enjoying it, I feel like I’m less stressed than last week.

“Because not that there’s less technique involved but I can enjoy this one because it is just a party dance,” she said.

During the episode of It Takes Two, Maisie’s EastEnders colleague, Jake Wood offered words of advice, six years after he competed on the show.

“Don’t worry about all that being in the bottom two last week, put that all behind you.

“The Cha Cha Cha, I didn’t want to tell you was probably my least favourite dance of the whole series.

“This week the Salsa… it’s a lot freer in the hips! Relax, enjoy and you’ll be absolutely fine,” he told the Tiffany Butcher-Baker actress.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7:25pm on BBC One.
