The Chase fans were left fuming on Tuesday afternoon as ITV latest instalment of the popular quiz show.
Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants to the show today for the last episode of the week.
The cheeky presenter was eager to see them get through to the final with some money in-hand.
Mark “The Beast” Labbett was in the hot seat tonight trying to prevent the hopefuls from going home with the cash prize.
Paul, Kaan, Annie and Rozie all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Beast in an intense round of general knowledge questions.
Rozie, Annie and Kaan sailed through to the final Rond with ease and Paul was the fourth and final contestant to take on the tough ITV quiz show.
Paul managed to answer four questions correctly during his cash builder round, earning a sound £4,000.
He was faced with a tough decision when it came to the head-to-head round with quizzer Mark.
Mark offered the player a chance to swap his £4,000 for a higher offer of £54,000 or a lower offer of minus £4,000.
After asking his team for advice, Paul decided to take the lower offer and the prize fund dropped from £20,000 to £16,000.
Paul’s team were more than happy with his decision but viewers at home were not happy and rushed to their keyboards to discuss the player’s “mistake”.
Taking to Twitter, one fan ranted: “I’d be so annoyed being the other three having their effort undone by someone taking money off what they won.”
Another raged: “Stop getting the answers right. You are taking money away!”
While a third person said: “You’re damn right mark people are screaming! Would never take away others hard earned money even if they say it’s fine to do so.”
A fourth said: “I’ll never understand how getting rid of a decent chunk of money from the prize pot is beneficial.”
Explaining the reason behind his shock decision, Paul explained: “I am going to play tactical and take the minus £4,000 offer.”
The Beast correctly told Paul: “Viewers at home will be screaming at their televisions now but I think it the right choice.”
Paul managed to make it through to the final round with ease and all four teammates took on The Chaser in a tense round of questions.
The foursome managed to beat The Beast in the nail-biting final and were delighted to go home with £4,000 each.
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
