The Chase ‘s Anne Hegerty was defeated by the team of players during Thursday’s edition of the ITV quiz show.
Mel, Gaynor and Liam made it through to the final chase after beating The Governess in a series of head-to-head rounds and walked away from the studio with £5,000 each.
As the players celebrated their win, Anne said: “I made a few slip-ups but they played very well.
“I should have known some of them questions.”
Viewers at home rushed to their keyboards to praise the team of players, while some pointed out that Anne wasn’t happy with her defeat.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Anne looked seriously p****d off!”
Another added: “Well done team. Anne’s not happy!”
A third person posted: “This is brilliant. This team deserved it because they were such dark horses.”
While a fourth wrote: “Congratulations team, what a good performance and well played. Enjoy the money.”
Liam, Pen, Gaynor and Mel all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Governess in an intense round of general knowledge questions.
Maths teacher Liam was first up and he made it home and dry, putting £6,000 in the prize pot.
Contestant number two Pen wasn’t so lucky and was sent packing after getting caught by The Governess in the head-to-head round.
Gaynor was the third player to take on the tough quiz show and she told Bradley, 60, exactly what she’d do if she was lucky enough to leave the studio with some cash.
“I’d buy a new handbag. Mulberry has a new one out,” she explained.
Bradley, 60, asked: “Have many handbags have you got?”
Gaynor replied: “The last time I counted I had around 64. Not all designer though.”
The gobsmacked presented wondered: “Do you use them all?”
“I’ve got to say yes otherwise by husband won’t let me get any more,” she replied.
Gaynor went on to answer six questions correctly in her cash builder, earning a sound £6,000.
She decided against taking the low or high offer from The Governess and she made it home and dry, boosting the total to £12,000.
After being defeated by a second another contestant, Anne declared: “I’ve got a game on my hands.
“I haven’t answered a question wrong and two contestants have still managed to go through.”
Things got even worse for The Governess when Mel also made it through to the final chase with £3,000 in his hand, making the grand total £15,000.
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
