The Chase fans have proven nothing gets past them in previous episodes – and Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV quiz show was no exception.
When four contestants named Tudor, Liz, Henry and Mary stepped up to the plate, viewers were quick to pick up on the regal link between the players.
The name Tudor is a reference to the period of British history between 1485 and 1603, while Henry refers to King Henry the VIII.
For the female contestants, Mary, Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth also got a mention.
Moments later, Chaser Darragh Ennis similarly spotted their royal names, as he made a cheeky historical joke about the “Bloody Mary” cocktail.

Turning to contestant Bradley Walsh, he remarked: “Don’t tell me you didn’t spot it Brad?”
Suddenly, Bradley’s jaw dropped, as he looked to the names listed beneath each contestant, and figured out the regal connection between them.
He exclaimed: “There you are, Kings and Queens, of the Tudor era.”
Meanwhile, viewers at home were even quicker to spot the tongue-in-cheek arrangement of the quiz hopefuls, as they took to their keyboards to weigh in on the debate.

One said: “The producers like to have fun with the contestants names don’t they – The Tudor monarchs today #TheChase.”
“See what they’ve done with the names !!” added a second.
“Tudor, Liz, henry, mary How made up #TheChase Why hear comes, Catherine of Aragon,” a third remarked.
And a fourth penned: “Oh God. Yes they’re all royal names. Ho ho ho. #thechase.”
This isn’t the first time the producers have played around with the arrangement of contestants’ names – they went the extra mile during the Royal Wedding special back in 2018.
Honouring the marriage of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the producers invited four contestants to the show, named Kate, Will, Harry and Megan.
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
