Ashley Roberts told critics of the Pussycat Dolls’ sexy image to 'f**k off'

Singer Ashley Roberts has told critics of the Pussycat Dolls’ sexy image to “f**k off”.

She says the reunited band are branded “prostitutes” for their raunchy routines, while male strip show Magic Mike is celebrated.

A performance on the BBC’s One Show attracted 119 complaints from viewers who thought it was too racy.

But Ashley, 38, said: “Someone told me that I shouldn’t be sexy and I’m like: ‘F**k off’.

“Magic Mike comes on and everyone loves it but women do it and we’re called prostitutes. I want to embrace the fact that I’m a woman getting to go back out with my girls.”

And the star says she is not planning to tone down her routines, even when she is old and grey.

She added: “We have nothing to prove.

“We just want to go out there and have some fun again. I want to be sexy when I’m like 90.”

She said: “The sexiness comes from a place of confidence.

“There is something incredibly powerful about owning your space and being unapologetically you.

“Female empowerment isn’t criticising and tearing each other down, it’s encouraging females to find themselves and own it. It’s about the intention opposed to the attention.”

It comes after The Pussycat Dolls sparked 119 complaints with their sizzling performance of new song React on The One Show in Febraury.

The quintet put on a real show for a small London audience as well as viewers at home – but it seems some weren’t happy.

But the BBC has hit back at complaints, saying in a statement: “The Pussycat Dolls are well known for their dance routines and outfits and we announced at the start of the show that they would be appearing.

“Their performance then came towards the end of the programme, just before 8pm.

“As with all performers, we worked with the band to ensure their performance was suitable for the programme.

“We felt it was appropriate for the time slot and wouldn’t fall outside the expectations of most viewers.

“However, we appreciate that some viewers didn’t agree.”
