BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt slammed for 'car crash' Matt Hancock interview

BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt has found himself at the centre of an online backlash after interviewing Health Secretary Matt Hancock during Thursday’s show.

Charlie, 58, was interviewing Hancock about the government’s ongoing response to the coronavirus crisis in light of the increased quarantining guidelines.

Appearing to take a leaf out of Piers Morgan’s book, Charlie took a more direct approach than usual with his guest.

Speaking via video link, the BBC star left little wiggle room for Hancock as he tried to get to the bottom of the latest rule change.

While his stern approach was praised by some – others hit out, accusing Charlie of going too far.

Another added: “@BBCBreakfast honestly your presenter has no clue. Matt Hancock was clear and your presenter was being ridiculously ignorant.”

Meanwhile, a third savaged: “Charlie not listening once again… #BBCBreakfast #whowritestheirquestions.”

“@BBCBreakfast in my opinion the interview conducted by Charlie this morning with Matt Hancock crossed a boundary and was rude and disrespectful (sic),” a fourth hit out.

However, despite the backlash, many viewers did praise Charlie for not letting Matt get off lightly.

One supporter praised: “@BBCBreakfast Charlie Stayt making mincemeat of @MattHancock who has no credible answers.”
