BBC News presenter Huw Edwards says pneumonia battle left him in hospital

BBC News anchor Huw Edwards has revealed he was left in hospital after battling pneumonia.

The well-known journalist, 58, said he expects to be back on viewers’ screens later in the week after being discharged from King’s College Hospital in Camberwell, London.

Taking to his Twitter account, which boasts 90,600 followers, Huw shared a picture of himself clutching a pint alongside the caption: “Big thanks to @KingsCollegeNHS for superb care #pneumonia,

“I’ll be back at @BBCNews this week — keep safe everyone and follow the guidelines #StayHomeSaveLives.”

Following his tweet, the presenter has been inundated with support from colleagues and fellow journalists.

Sky News’ Alistair Bruce penned: “Huw, really good news that you have conquered this vile pestilence and our thanks to those that fought with you. #NHSheroes.”

Author Professor Kate Williams added: “Oh no, you had this, so sorry and very glad to hear you’re feeling better!”

Pneumonia is an inflammation of the tissue in either one or both lungs, most frequently caused by a bacterial infection.

It can develop after moderate to severe cases of coronavirus with both sharing similar symptoms including a cough, high temperature, difficulty breathing as well as a rapid heartbeat.
