Big Brother fans outraged over Micheal Barrymore Hitler impersonation on show

Big Brother : Best Shows Ever fans weren’t impressed by producers’ decision to feature Michael Barrymore’s Hitler impression in the highlights of the show this evening.

Playing throwback clips from Season Four of the hit reality show, each celebrity was instructed to perform something for an elaborate “talent show” in the house.

As a comedian, Michael decided to do a comedy sketch for his housemates, getting into costume.

The former game show host went on to do an impersonation of the fascist dictator Adolf Hitler, putting on an accent.

While the impersonation had been intended as a joke, many viewers took offence to the inclusion of the clip, and took to Twitter to complain.

Michael Barrymore did an impression of Hitler on the show back in 2006

One said: “Ffs. Absolutely mindless showing anything to do with Hitler for obvious reasons but you must’ve known what you were doing & all for what – ratings?!… #vile Why did presenters not speak out too as must’ve known?!”

A second agreed: “I can’t believe #BBUK decided to show Hitler. Watch them get ofcom complains before the shows even been renewed for another season pmsl #SaveBBUK.”

The rest of the housemates were left divided by the comedy sketch

While a third chimed: “Beginning of the first episode they said they’d taken some bits out as it wouldn’t be appropriate and they’ve just played Michael Barrymore impersonating Hitler.”

And a fourth remarked: “Why did #BBUK leave in the Hitler impression?”

Introducing the show yesterday, host Rylan Clark Neal pointed out that producers had edited the show to reflect modern values, axing “inappropriate” scenes from the show.

Michael was one of 11 housemates in the 2006 season

He said: “We are gonna be showing these episodes just as they came out on air.

“Same aspect ratio, not all in HD, nothing like that.

“But remember, back then, some of the episodes are a bit shorter than what we’re used to now, so we’ve bolted some together.”

“As ever, as I’m sure you’re aware, there are some things that we have taken out from a few shows that just didn’t feel right for 2020.”
