Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry has spoken out about her heroin addiction, stating that it was a “drag”.
The legendary American singer- songwriter and model, 74, has revealed her past struggles with keeping up with her heroin addiction, saying getting the drugs herself was why she stopped doing it.
She said that even at its peak, her drug use was intermittent and she never took them while she was in career mode.
She told ES Magazine, comparing herself to the late Amy Winehouse: “I wasn’t taking drugs when I was working, so when I was working I wasn’t taking drugs. It wasn’t like I was, what’s her name? She didn’t want to go to rehab…

“Drugs are a funny thing. The thing that drove me away from taking them was having to acquire them and what a drag that was.
“It was kind of a full-time occupation and a waste of time. It became unpleasant. Luckily for me I was able to handle the withdrawal.”
The star has been open about her past traumatic experiences, speaking out about harrowing situations in her book memoir Face It.

She claimed she escaped the hands of serial Killer Ted Bundy back in the early 1970s, saying the murderer offered her a ride which she refused.
The singer also wrote about being raped at knife point in her book, confessing she was most upset that her attacker stole the guitars she owned with her bandmate and then partner, Chris Stein.
Debbie told the publication: “I used to be all morbid about things and this friend would say, “Well, I’ve got five minutes for that,” and then she’d move on.

“For a while I wondered how she did it, but I took a lesson from it and managed to make it work for me. I can’t always make it work.”
She continued: “Sometimes I live with this darkness or idea of impossibility, but I was in a great relationship [with Stein] at the time and we supported each other through it.”
