Bobbie Battista, one of the original CNN Headline News anchors, has died at the age of 67 following a battle with cervical cancer, her family has confirmed.
She died after a four-year battle with the disease.
Executive producer at CNN Lisa Mirando shared the news on Twitter, writing that “the CNN family lost a good one today”.
Bobbie was one of the original CNN Headline News anchors back when the US network launched in 1981.
The popular broadcaster also worked on news programmes such as CNN’s Talk-Back Live and CNN International.
She had a long career, first coming onto the scene in 1975 and working for more than 40 years.

Bobbie leaves behind her husband John Brimelow, with whom she has a step-daughter.
Born in New Jersey, the journalist got her bachelor’s degree in radio, television and film production at Northwestern University in Illinois.
Her first job was at a radio station in Raleigh, North Carolina, but she soon moved on to work with WRAL-TV as an anchor, reporter and producer.

Following that, she joined CNN in 1981.
Bobbie moved on to the main network in 1988 and hosted a number of daily and regularly scheduled shows, alongside her anchoring and reporting duties.
She has reported on some iconic historical events during her career, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, the Gulf War and the September 11 terrorist attack on the Twin Towers.

The star won a number of awards while she was with CNN and won a Peabody Award for a series she wrote and produced on youth crime.
Bobbie lived in Atlanta, Georgia and was in the process of starting a new production company which would focus on reality television.
In popular culture, Bobbie’s news reading style was often parodied on Saturday Night Live.
