Candice Brown's husband admits Paul Hollywood 'kiss' 'strained' relationship

Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown’s husband has told that their relationship faced a big challenge shortly after their engagement.

Candice, 35, and Liam Macaulay recently confirmed that their marriage was ending, having tied the knot in 2018 and renewed their vows last year.

And Liam revealed that his then fiancee receiving an innocent peck on the cheek from Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood spiralled into an intense pressure on their relationship.

Paul, 54, was snapped kissing Candice’s cheek as she left an event.

And though it was innocent, the storm of speculation that followed took its toll.

Candice Brown’s husband said their relationship faced a big challenge shortly after their engagement

“I’d not long asked Candice to marry me,” Liam recalled, “and I had to read reports that my new fiancee was seen kissing Hollywood.

“That was just a kiss on the cheek and there was nothing else to it, but we had only been engaged a few days.

“It was a lot to deal with.”

Tree surgeon Liam added to The Daily Mail that there are no others involved in their split, but that it “wasn’t working.”

Candice’s rep confirmed to the Mirror that they’d decided to go their separate ways “earlier this year.”

And despite their split, Liam’s still full of praise for “wonderful” Candice.

Liam recently moved out of their flat above The Green Man pub in Eversholt, Milton Keynes, and has since holidayed in Greece to get some sun.

He was also said to be gutted that his previous conviction and jail time were made public during her Bake Off stint.

A year before he’d met Candice, Liam served a 16 month jail stint for dealing cannabis.

Candice herself told The Daily Star at the time that it was “difficult” to have it dredged up.

The baker has spoken before about her mental health struggles, and how they’d posed a fresh challenge for their relationship – despite Liam’s support and understanding.

In an emotional interview, she revealed she suffers from “clinical depression, chronic phobia and PTSD.

“It’s hard and people don’t realise, it’s a real battle. People might be like, ‘oh, she’s jumping on the bandwagon’, but they’ve got no idea what has been going on in my brain for the past five or six years.

“It’s been s**t, sometimes I get angry and it’s probably going to be with me forever. When it got really bad, baking was what I would do.”
