Caroline Flack stopped looking at Twitter comments after 'horrible' X Factor backlash

Caroline Flack stopped looking at Twitter comments after she was cruelly savaged when she co-hosted The X Factor alongside Olly Murs.

The late star admitted that she found her time on the main ITV show ‘tough’ and quickly realised she couldn’t joke about like she did during her time on Xtra Factor.

Speaking frankly about the pressure bought on by Twitter users who picked holes in the show, Caroline said: “Suddenly you had to get everything right or you were slammed.

“Following in Dermott’s footsteps was the hardest thing… he is a national treasure.

“It was a tough gig, I’m not going to lie.

“You can get really involved in your own mind sometimes and take it so seriously but you have to just come out of it and think that in the grand scheme of things it is an entertainment show.”

Explaining how social media trolls made her job harder, Caroline continued to Cosmo magazine: “I worked in TV when wasn’t around and then I’ve worked in Twitter when it was around.

“When it wasn’t around I would come off and then just get on with my day.

“Now it’s like… Oh I looked huge according to them. It is part of it.”

Caroline learned to cut out out the backlash after a particularly savage backlash following one episode of The X Factor.

“I don’t read it anymore, I learnt not to,” she continued.

“It was after one of the X Factor shows.

“It’s like, you know you have a bill that has to be paid bit you don’t open it.

“You know it’s there but you don’t look. That is what it was like with Twitter.

“I knew all the comments were there but I couldn’t look at them.

“Then one day I just did and it was horrible.

“I thought don’t look any more. You are always going to find stuff like that.

“There are always people who are going to say mean things but you can’t let it get to you.”

Caroline was tragically found dead at her home last weekend.

The former CBBC presenter was just 40-years-old.
