Casualty actor Jason Durr has recently suffered a double heartbreak, losing his mum and sister-in-law just four days apart from one another.
The 52-year-old actor, who has played nurse David Hide on the BBC medical drama since 2016, lost his mum to coronavirus, while his sister-in-law died after a battle with cancer.
Opening up about his devastating loss, Jason praised the NHS for their tireless efforts to fight Covid throughout the pandemic.
Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “Lockdown and this whole coronavirus period has been incredibly challenging for so many families.

“I can completely understand what so many people have been going through.
“It’s been a very peculiar time in all our lives. But the support we had for my sister-in-law from the NHS nurses and doctors was incredible.
“My mum’s carers went above and beyond to help her through it. I think it makes you realise what’s important in life.”

Highlighting the impact of the pandemic on the nation, the soap star explained the lockdown has been “tough for everyone,” especially those who have suffered a loss.
He said: “You just need to be kind to people and understand what they might be going through.

Jason added the experience has brought new meaning to his role on Casualty, as he paid tribute to the bravery of NHS workers up and down the country.
He said: “I might dress up as a nurse and put on my scrubs but my ultimate respect and thanks goes out to all those real nurses and doctors who have been doing such an incredible job on the front line.”
With Casualty filming due to resume later this year, no doubt the lockdown experience will bring more emotion than ever to the BBC One soap opera.
