While some celebrities took to baking like a duck to water, others have faltered in the Great British Bake Off tent.
The popular show has witnessed many biscuit-based setbacks over the years, including soggy bottoms, crispy sponges and egg-less cakes.
Daily Star Online has unearthed some of the most dramatic moments of the celebrity special episodes, featuring a myriad of British finest entertainment heroes.
Prepare for cake calamity.
1. Big Narstie quits mid-way through the competition
Big Narstie didn’t excel in baking when he entered the tent.
He couldn’t handle the heat of the kitchen – and decided to quit mid-way through the competition leaving co-host Sandy Toksvig to put together a showstopper on his behalf.
After making ‘dog poo’ inspired biscuits, he was then told to create 6 pies for the technical challenge.
But in true Big Narstie style, he made one giant pie that failed to win any praise. After pie gate, he swiftly hung up his apron and scarpered.
2. Krishnan Guru-Murthy’s egg gate
Krishnan Guru-Murthy got off to a shaky start when he forgot to add a key ingredient to his beloved bake.
His cake was missing an egg and he began to panic: “It’s too late now. I can’t really crack an egg on top.”
Unsurprisingly, once baked, his cake fell apart when he tried to move it onto the tray.
“What a disaster,” he proclaimed.
Trying to salvage the remains of his cake, he ended up with a bite-sized amount.
3. James Acaster’s soggy flapjacks
James Acaster suffered a serious case of soggy bottom when he presented Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith very under-baked Bakewell flapjacks.
Prior to baking his oaty bites, Paul commented: “It looks a bit wet.” James replied: “Well, it’s not baked yet. Don’t you worry! When you eat it, it won’t be like this.”
Despite his confidence, the final flapjacks had the structural integrity of a chocolate fireguard.
After sampling James’ bake, Paul simply exclaimed: “Great flavour, not very well executed,” James replied: “Story of my life.”
4. Jamie Laing’s banana bread branded ‘worst cake ever’
Jamie Laing may be the heir to the McVitie’s throne, but the Made in Chelsea star doesn’t know how to create a banana bread.
After blitzing all the ingredients in a food processor, his banana bread was woefully undercooked, and, according to Jamie looked like the insides “of a pork pie”.
Prue Leith decided to try his beloved loaf, but quickly spat it out, exclaiming: “It’s disgusting.”
And Paul Hollywood was no kinder: “That has got to be the worst cake that has ever been baked in the tent.”
Stick to biscuits, Jamie?
5. Nick Hewer’s choux pasty mishap
During the showstopper round, Nick Hewer and his fellow celeb companions were tasked with creating an eye-catching choux bake.
His tower of choux buns were spectacularly sub-par, and admitted his type of profiteroles – more like a biscuit – were the first of their kind.
“It’s the new choux. It’ the rage in Milan. It’s sweeping Italy. It’s on its way here – you’re the first to see it.
“I went through 23 eggs and I’m never going to do it again.”
After urging the judges not to eat it, Paul called them “crispy” and “Yorkshire-pudding like”.
6. Alan Carr gives up
“I’ve never cried on National TV before,” Alan remarked before covered his barely-cooked cake with a sheet of blue icing.
Pretty much giving up, he urged presenter Noel Fielding to “stick anything” on top of his cake in a bid to impress the judges.
After covering his dream rainbow cake with a variety of animals made out of marzipan, he presented the cake to Prue and Paul.
But his efforts were quickly shot down when the master baker broke off a piece of the cake: “You shouldn’t really be able to snap a sponge. It actually crumbles – I’ve never seen that before.”
