Channel 4 put porn drama on hold as it's 'too X-rated' to air before 10pm

Channel 4 has reportedly delayed transmission of its new porn industry drama Adult Material, because it’s too naughty to air before 10pm.

The drama had been scheduled to air in the spring, but it’s reported that it now won’t be on screens until the autumn.

On top of its X-rated content, it’s thought that the show would struggle against the daily coronavirus updates, which are attracting a huge 6.5million viewers.

A source said: “Channel 4 are incredibly proud of this brave drama and see it as one of the jewels in the crown of its TV shows in 2020. So they want to give it the best chance possible of developing an audience.

“That’s very difficult at 10pm, when people are preoccupied with getting the latest on that day’s events.”

The TV insider added to the Sun Online: “It’s hoped that by waiting until the autumn, there’s a chance that the crisis will have calmed down and people’s viewing habits will return to normal.”

Head of drama at Channel 4, Caroline Hollick, confirmed: “We’re hugely proud of this bold, funny, ground-breaking drama and will be launching the series later in the year.”

Earlier this year, Channel 4 released the trailer for the show, teasing what viewers could expect.

Starring Hayley Squires as lead character Jolene Dollar, the four-part series is set to give a glimpse into the adult industry from a female performer’s point of view.

Mum-of-three Jolene is introduced to a 19-year-old porn star Amy and she takes her under her wing, trying to protect her from some of the choices she makes.

But soon, their friendship will see both Jolene’s personal life and career start to unravel.

The series also stars Rupert Everett as Jolene’s friend and producer Caroll Quinn, while Game of Thrones star Joe Dempsie will play Jolene’s long-term partner Rich.

Expect plenty of sex, arguments, fiery drama and even some court scenes – so hold on until Autumn to watch.
