Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan confirmed she doesn’t have the same “cancer gene” as her sisters, following their heartbreaking diagnoses earlier this year.
Both Linda and Anne Nolan were diagnosed with different types of cancer in recent months, and are undergoing chemotherapy together.
On today’s show, Carol McGiffin, who recovered from breast cancer in the past, revealed several of her check-ups have been cancelled as a result of the pandemic, leaving her worried.
She said: “If I have got things that are potentially cancerous, the stress and worry about not being able to get it checked will have exacerbated it.”
The 60-year-old explained she feared the stress could accelerate any underlying illnesses, as she said: “Worry and stress is a big contribute-y thing to cancer.”

Coleen agreed, adding: “It can be a major factor of it recurring, is stress.”
The 55-year-old went on to discuss her own family’s trauma, saying: “My sisters who have been going through treatment have been really really lucky because they’ve had nothing cancelled.”
Coleen added that she got tested recently, saying: “Just on Friday they phoned me and said ‘you can come in today’.”

Wondering whether Coleen was at risk, fellow panellist Jane Moore asked: “You haven’t got the gene?”
Nodding, Coleen confirmed: “We haven’t got the known gene.”
However, she added that doctors have advised frequent testing, as there is still an element of uncertainty in the science behind genetics and cancer.

She said: “It is, and the doctors and the geneticists don’t think that it’s just bad luck.
“It’s all just a worry. I think about it a hell of a lot, not only for me, but for my nieces, and nephews and my sons.”
Coleen added: “I am going to look into the double mastectomy. Because, if I’ve got it, I’m going to do everything I can to get rid of it.”
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
