Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars 'furious' as they face pay cuts

Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars are set to be hit with pay cuts due to a lack of ad revenue because of the coronavirus, according to reports.

Insiders reckon talent pay cuts are “inevitable” but big names will be saved, which could include babes such as Corrie’s Tina O’Brien and Emmerdale’s Mimi Slinger.

A source claims many less high-profile figures are furious about the potential plan which could see phased cuts being introduced.

News of the plans comes after ITV reported a 42 per cent fall in ad revenues in April.

The source told The Sun: “Well-known stars know they’ll be touched but there is some anger that it’s unlikely to affect the biggest names.”

The channel’s soap actors are also among those worried despite news that filming will resume.

It’s thought Emmerdale and Corrie’s younger stars fear they won’t get enough work.

News of the pay cuts comes after Emmerdale staff hit out at ITV bosses last week after they learned soap crew would get covid temperature checks – but they would be snubbed from the tests.

Journalists, office and tech staff revolted after John Whiston, head of ITV in the North, emailed staff to let them know about the plans,

But insiders claim Mr Whiston was forced to offer temperature testing for all after he was hit with a deluge of complaints from “p***ed off” staff.

A source added: “We have only started back in production this week and are constantly assessing how all our controls are working.

“ITV has extended the facility to anyone else who shares the site with Emmerdale and who wishes to be temperature checked.”

Last week it was revealed that Emmerdale has already returned to filming, bringing their temporary lockdown suspension to an end.

Daily Star Online has contacted reps for Coronation Street and Emmerdale for comment.
