Coronation Street ‘s original climax for Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King) and her attempted murder trial were very different – but had to be scrapped.
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, television was forced to stop production which means Corrie’s planned storylines had to be altered or pushed back.
Soap boss Iain MacLeod explained that the annual week of explosive episodes during the Britain’s Got Talent finale saw a huge storyline come to a climax, but they have had to change it.
And with Yasmeen gearing up for her trial in episodes airing now, it appears the big storyline Iain was talking about was the one everyone was waiting for.
Speaking in June, Iain said: “We had one particularly big storyline which was due to climax in the finals week of Britain’s Got Talent.
“We normally do a big spectacular story climax and that proved to not be possible this time.
“So rather than do a half-cooked version of it, because it required a location, we elected to push the big centrepiece, drama of that week and do it later in the year at a time we can do it full beam rather than a compromised version.”

To push the court date back, scriptwriters added in a terrifying heart attack for Yasmeen on the day of her trial.
Viewers will be introduced to another woman who was abused by Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) too, Elaine (Paula Wilcox).
With the court date being pushed back, viewers will get more time to learn about Geoff’s abusive past and potentially meet more women he’s abused.
But will they get the result in court that they’re hoping for, with Yasmeen being freed?
Back on the cobbles, some people have started doubting Geoff’s side of the story – especially his daughter-in-law Sally (Sally Dynevor).
However Tim (Joe Duttine) is sticking by his dad, meaning things are getting difficult between him and Sally, too.
Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV
