Coronavirus: Supergroup Boyzlife release 'anthem for the elderly' to raise funds

Supergroup Boyzlife have released a charity single to raise funds amid the current coronavirus pandemic.

The pop group, consisting of Westlife star Brian McFadden, 39, and Boyzone’s Keith Duffy, 45, have pledged to donate the profits from the single to Age UK.

Titled You Needed Me, the song was originally recorded by Boyzone back in 1999, with the brand new version featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The single, which is from their debut album Strings Attached, and is aimed help those who need it most during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Keith revealed they hoped the single would become an “anthem for the elderly” and let them know that people do care.

He said: “We want to let people know that the elderly are there, and that people care, and that Age UK can fight your corner for you if you are elderly, and help you out if you are unwell.

“If this song becomes an anthem for Age UK, and people listen to it, the awareness is created.”

He added to the Press Association: “The lyrics lend themselves very well to reaching out and helping other people – picking somebody up when they are down, letting people know there is somebody out there who cares.

“That’s the message we are putting out there, that’s what this song does.”

The pair finished recording the album a matter of weeks before lockdown.

Brian is currently working as an NHS volunteer responder during the coronavirus crisis.

The singer explained: “Right now the people who are being affected the most are the elderly.

“Age UK is a fantastic charity that helps them, getting food and medicine to people, just even simple things like talking to people on the phone that are lonely.

“Boyzone goes back 26 years, so lot of our fans who were maybe in their 40s when we started, they are now seen as elderly.

“We wanted to do something for them.”
