Coronation Street’ s Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) finally discovered that her partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) has a long-lost son on Wednesday.
Nick recently received life-changing news from his former flame Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) when she told him he is the father of her son Sam (Jude Riordan).
This major life development has come at the same time as his partner Leanne is fighting for new treatment for her young son Oliver, who has an incurable mitochondrial disease.
Both of these situations collided tonight (October 7) when Leanne and Sam came face-to-face for the first time.
Leanne was hesitant at first, but Sam was eventually able to warm her heart momentarily.
However, Leanne later admitted that Nick had only made her hate him for the new life he would have with Sam.
“Just go. I can’t bear to look at you. Just go,” she demanded.
Viewers rushed to their keyboards as Leanne rejected heartbroken Nick.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “It’s terrible what Leanne is going through, but the world doesn’t and isn’t going to stop just because her son is sick. She can be angry with Nick for not telling her sooner about Sam but the way she’s acting is wrong.”
Another added: “Nick took on Leanne and Oliver and this is how she repays him.”
A third posted: “So Oliver is ‘their’ son, and Nick should sacrifice everything for him, but Sam is ‘his’ son, and she can be angry at Nick because Sam’s not dying. Leanne’s a nightmare!
While a fourth said: “I know Leanne is grieving and all, but she’s been very demanding and harsh towards Nick in tonight’s. It’s not his fault that he has a long lost son, it’s just bad timing.”
“Why is Leanne blaming Nick for having another son. He can’t help it he has only just found out himself. Is she feeling Jealous of the life Oliver won’t have,” wrote a fifth viewer.
Earlier in the episode Nick promised Sam he’d watch him play “Space Oddity” at lunchtime but there was trouble when a meeting at the hospital with Leanne overran.
As Nick repeatedly checked his phone for the time, Leanne grew upset at the thought that he was more concerned with his phone than Oliver’s health.
Nick angered his partner even more when he was forced to abruptly rush out of the hospital appointment before it was over, so he could get to Sam’s performance on time.
Gail Platt’s eldest son realised it was time to finally come clean, as he explained that Natasha had given birth in secret nine years ago and he hadn’t known about Sam until a few weeks ago.
Although Nick insisted he was trying to protect Leanne by hiding the truth from her, his partner demanded he bring both Natasha and Sam to the hospital for a meeting.
Is this really the end for Nick and Leanne?
