Corrie's Georgia May Foote slams Netflix's southern actors for terrible accents

Former Corrie star Georgia May Foote has hit out at southern actors playing northern parts – saying that the accent is too tricky.

It comes as Netflix show White Lines faces criticism for its dodgy Mancunian accents, including London-born Laura Haddock, who plays the lead role.

One reviewer described fellow star Laurence Fox’s accent as a mixture of “Manchester-Yorkshire-West Country”.

Georgia, 29, who was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, said: “Why are northern actors not asked to play northern parts?

“The accent is difficult if you’re not from here.”

She added in what fans saw as a dig at White Lines: “Trying to watch what should be a good series but put off with an accent. I see and hear this so much.”

The drama sees Zoe (Haddock), travel to Ibiza to find out what happened to her brother, whose body is found 20 years after he went missing.

Despite all of the key characters being Mancunian, none of the cast appeared to hail from the northern city.

Jennie Sunflower was one of many to complain about the accent of Inbetweeners star Haddock, 34.

She wrote: “Will’s lass from The Inbetweeners Movie is doing the worst Manc accent I’ve ever heard.”

Another viewer said: “The Mancunian lead character has a Yorkshire accent. I’m half expecting a French policeman to turn up and announce he’s ‘just p*ssing through’.”

White Lines features drug taking, sex scenes, murders and an orgy. The series has received some positive reviews.
