Dolly Parton is donating $1M toward finding a cure for COVID-19

It would appear that country superstar Dolly Parton is working longer than a 9-to-5 as she revealed she’s donating $1M towards finding a cure for coronavirus.

The 74-year-old is donating a substantial amount to a research project at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Making the announcement on Instagram, the American star urged people to “give what they can” as the pandemic continues to spread across the globe.

She put: “My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure.

Dolly shared the generous announcement to her fans on social media

“I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research,” she added.

And her goodwill gesture didn’t go unnoticed by her fans and a number of celebrities.

Reece Witherspoon wrote: “Dolly, you never cease to amaze me with your generosity and your incredible spirit!”

Meanwhile, Goldie Hawn wrote: “Angel, that you are.”

And a third exclaimed: “You are the pride and joy of Tennesse. And an angel.”

Her charitable donation comes days after she uploaded a video to her Instagram account, telling people to “not be scared” about the pandemic, and that everyone “should keep the faith”.

“Well hello! It’s Dolly. Climbing the stairway to heaven because this virus has scared the H-E-L-L out of us,” she sang.

“I’m not making light out of the situation. Well, maybe I am because it’s the light, I believe, that’s going to dissolve the situation. I think God is in this, I really do.”

“I think he’s trying to hold us up to the light so we can see ourselves and see each other through the eyes of love, and I hope we learn that lesson,” she said.

“I think that when this passes we’re all gonna be better people.”
