Dominic West in talks to play Prince Charles in The Crown amid Lily James storm

Actor Dominic West is said to be in advanced talks to take on the role of Prince Charles in the final two seasons of Netflix ‘s The Crown.

If successful, Dominic, 51, would take on the role to cover Prince Charles’ affair with his now wife Camilla Parker Bowles.

A TV insider told The Sun: “This will be a prestigious casting for Dominic.

“But the irony of it won’t be lost on anyone.

“Show bosses looked at several stars for the sought-after role, but he was by far their preferred actor.

“Now both parties are hammering out a deal.”

Currently, Prince Charles is played by actor Josh O’Connor but he will bow out without the rest of the cast after series 4.

Series 5 and six Princess Diana will be played by The Night Manager actress Elizabeth Debicki.

Dominic has found himself at the centre of a media storm after he was snapped snuggling up to actress Lily James, 31, during a trip to Italy.

While the Cinderella actress is single after splitting with Matt Smith, Dominic is married to Catherine Fitzgerald, 49.

Last week the couple held a bizarre photo call outside their home where they kissed next to a signed handwritten note.

The note, which was pinned up outside their home read: “Our marriage is strong and we are very much still together. Thank you, Catherine and Dominic.”

Meanwhile, Lily has pulled out of a series of planned TV appearances to promote her new Netflix show Rebecca.

As well as dropping out of US programme The Today Show, Lily has also pulled the plug on appearing on The Graham Norton Show.

Despite Dominic’s very public display of unity with his wife, Lily is yet to be seen since the scandal broke.

She has also decided not to comment on any claims.

Series 3 of The Crown drops on Netflix November 15.
