Dr Hilary shares hack for getting coronavirus test close to home on GMB

Good Morning Britain health expert Dr Hilary Jones was back on our screens on Friday to discuss the latest coronavirus news.

The 67-year-old GP revealed a hack on how to get a coronavirus test close to home during this morning’s edition of the ITV breakfast show.

It has been reported that several people have been unable to access the Test and Trace system when suffering from Covid-19 symptoms.

Some have travelled over 150 miles away from their home, while ill, to get to the nearest available test.

Dr Hilary explained this morning that there appears to be a glitch in the online booking system.

When asked by a viewer what their next step would be after they were unable to secure a test, he said: “Technology is a large part of the problem

“When you go online and you look for a test you may be offered one many, many miles away.

“But, if you go back on five minutes later you may now find a test becomes available near you the same day.

“So just keep trying. It’s not a very personal service at all it’s very impersonal.”

He added: “But if you just keep trying, keep logging on every few minutes, you will find that you will get a local test hopefully near to you.”

Earlier this week, Dr Hilary branded the Test and Trace system “chaotic and ridiculous”.

Speaking to host Piers Morgan, he stated: “We just don’t have the capacity to do the testing. And the Test and Trace at the moment is chaotic.

“People are being asked to travel 150 miles for a test when they could be ill.

“It just doesn’t make any sense.”

“Some have to [drive] for all sorts of reasons but some are offered that journey and they just don’t do it.

The doctor concluded: “It is ridiculous. We aren’t making these tests available with quick results locally and quickly and tracing every single person.”

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV
