Courtney Act has revealed that she joined the cast of Celebrity Karaoke Club to get over her fear of performing other people’s songs.
The 38-year-old drag queen – whose real name is Shane Jenek – will be back on our screens tonight (September 23) to take part in the brand new ITV2 series where celebrities go head-to-head in a unique karaoke competition, taking part in both solo performances and group battles.
Speaking to Daily Star Online about taking part in the brand-new ITV2 show, the RuPaul’s Drag Race icon revealed: “It was a lot of fun.
“It was a lovely a reprise from the mundane quarantine life.
“I enjoyed getting tarted up, having some drinks and singing with a group of fun people.”
Courtney went on to admit the reason behind why she signed up for the feel-good entertainment show.

Despite performing for millions of people across the globe, the former Celebrity Big Brother winner has a phobia of karaoke.
Courtney explained: “I am karaoke phobic and I wanted to get over my fear.
“I love singing and performing, and I’ve hosted karaoke nights before, but singing a song and not knowing what key it’s in and not really knowing the words is my worst nightmare.
“As a singer, it was scary and continues to be scary but it was actually really fun.”
Opening up about more about her phobia, the former Celebrity Big Brother champion said: “I just kept trying and failing at karaoke in the past.

“I think when you’re a singer the point of going on stage is to do a good job.
“The idea of sounding horrible scares me but I tried to take lead from the others around me and I leaned onto the fun of it all as much as I could.”
Celebrity Karaoke Club will see Courtney go head-to-head with TV favourite Scarlett Moffatt, radio presenter Melvin Odoom, TOWIE’s Jessica Wright, Ibiza Weekender’s David Potts, comedian Luke Kempner and singer-songwriter Tallia Storm in the first episode.
Courtney appeared on the inaugural season of Australian Idol in 2004 and later shot to fame on RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2014, finishing as joint runner up with Adore Delano behind winner Bianca De Rio.

The reality TV regular has performed on some of the biggest stages across the world but Australian beauty doesn’t think her background gave her any advantage at the Celebrity Karaoke Club.
Courtney said: “I think it worked against me.
“The singers of the group were committed to the singing where the non-singers just got up and tore it apart and they were most entertaining.
“They were 100 per cent dedicated to what they were doing and I was inspired by that.”
In a major show twist, there is no judging panel at the Celebrity Karaoke Club.

Instead, the showbiz stars will have to impress their fellow competitors in order to remain in the competition as each celebrity is also a karaoke judge.
At the end of each episode one celeb is sent home, with new celebrities joining the competition.
Other celebs appearing throughout the series include Loose Women panellist Judi Love, TV host Joel Dommett, TV and radio presenter Roman Kemp, singer and actress Diana Vickers, Drag Race’s Baga Chipz and Love Island’s Samira Mighty.
Discussing the controversial judging process, Courtney admitted: “It was very hard.
“Throughout the show we voted using the karaoke machine where we tapped on someones name to go home, but there is a massive twist during the final.”
Celebrity Karaoke Club airs every Wednesday on ITV2 at 10pm
