Eamonn Holmes was in a mood with his wife Ruth Langsford on Wednesday’s This Morning, as the conversation turned to “drumming”.
The 60-year-old Northern Irish presenter recalled the moment Ruth went against her hubby’s wishes and bought their son Jack a drum kit.
Ahead of an interview with child drumming sensation Nandi Bushell, Ruth made it clear she couldn’t wait to hear more from the young musician.
However, Eamonn insisted he wasn’t a fan of drumming, having spent years listening to their son practice with his own kit.
Things turned tense when Eamonn scolded Ruth on the show, complaining about her decision to buy Jack a drum kit behind his back.
Several years ago, Ruth seized the opportunity to invest in a drum kit when Eamonn returned to Ireland for a holiday.
Eamonn had told Jack he wasn’t allowed to have a drum kit, but once he left for the weekend, Ruth nipped to the shops to treat their son to the noisy instrument.
Holding a grudge, Eamonn griped: “What sort of message does that send out to children? That the father has no authority?”
Ruth replied: “You do. You just happened to be missing that weekend.”
Later, Eamonn fumed: “My life has been ruined because my own son is a drummer.”
Refusing to back down, Ruth replied: “Well, I love it.”
Ruth and Eamonn tied the knot in 2010, but welcomed their son Jack to the world eight years previously.
Jack, now 18, left the family home earlier this year to attend university, leaving his mum and dad alone in the house with their pet pooch Maggie.
Last month, Ruth admitted she was sad to send Jack off to uni, telling her Loose Women co-stars: “I’m alright now.
“We took him and he seems to be fine, seems to have settled in alright, but it’s a worry now with lockdown.”
She added: “I think [teenagers] are much more resilient than we think.
“I was talking to my mum about it… my mum was saying it’s not too much of a hardship being locked in with your phone!”
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
