EastEnders fans insisted Vinny Panesar looked “totally different” while watching this evening’s episode, though many struggled to figure out why.
The wannabe DJ returned to Walford after many months offscreen, as BBC One suspended production during the lockdown.
While Vinny formerly worked a cropped fringe and a full beard, this evening’s episode saw him working an entirely different look.
Played by Shiv Jalota, 26, Vinny made his debut in Albert Square last autumn, with the Panesar family making themselves a beloved fixture of the East End.
This evening, with his hair swept off his forehead and a clean-shaven face, the club employee was a transformed version of his old self.
Taking to Twitter, surprised viewers remarked over the change, with some noticing a shave and an elaborate chop were behind the makeover.
One said: “So many lockdown haircuts in Eastenders. Vinny especially looks unrecognisable.”
“Can someone tell me if thats the same vinny in eastenders,” added a second.
And a third chimed: “Wait, who’s that? Is that a new Vinny?”

While a fourth exclaimed: “Vinny looks so young without the facial hair, it really makes a difference with the power dynamic between the brothers.”
Having grown frustrated by the lack of work on offer in the bar, Vinny set about convincing Ruby Martin (Louisa Lytton) to come up with some creative new ways to make cash.
Hinting he wasn’t afraid to break the law, he remarked: “So why not cut them, your losses?”
She scoffed: “Whose going to buy a club these days, even with an espresso machine chucked in.”
Alluding to insurance fraud, he replied: “Who said anything about selling it? You’re insured, aren’t you?”
Can Vinny convince Ruby to challenge the law in upcoming scenes?
Eastenders airs Mondays at 8.05pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.35pm and Fridays at 8.30pm on BBC One
