EastEnders spoilers: Phil threatens to kill Karen as Ben tries to save Callum

EastEnders fans know that you never mess with a Mitchell and tonight’s dramatic episode reiterates that.

Ben (Max Bowen) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) take matters into their own hands to save Callum Highway (Tony Clay), who is being held hostage by a vengeful Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

Keanu wants Ben to feel what it is like to lose a loved one but suddenly he suddenly he finds himself out of his depth with Ben stopping at nothing to get Callum back and Phil is on hand to help him too.

Hard man Phil leads the mission to free Callum by breaking his way into Karen Taylor’s (Lorraine Stanley) flat knowing that Keanu would want no harm to his beloved mother.

Karen is left terrified when Phil bulldozes his way into her home and leaves her petrified as he turns aggressive and threatens her life.

Phil quizzes Karen on Keanu’s whereabouts but does the worried mother have the answers?

Meanwhile Ben has targeted heavily pregnant Sharon (Letitia Dean) knowing that Keanu wants to start afresh with her and their unborn baby.

With Ben taking Sharon hostage at the funeral parlour at gunpoint, Sharon makes Keanu aware that Ben has a gun and a clueless Calum has no idea what is going on as Keanu races out to face Ben.

Ben leaves Sharon in the hands of love rival Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) who helps deliver the baby.

Things are not all rosy for Sharon as she loses a lot of blood during labour and is unaware that her son Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau) is sinking on the Thames boat of doom.

As Phil and Ben’s paths meet on the boat, they come face to face for a showdown with Keanu and a shot rings out, the catalyst for a deadly disaster unfolding.

All the latest drama in Walford marks the BBC One soap’s 35th anniversary.

Speaking about the big birthday, executive producer Jon Sen told Digital Spy said: “We wanted to do something epic, obviously.

“We were aware of the 25th and obviously the 30th – they’ve done these live episodes and we wanted to do something different that was equally iconic, equally a big audience event.

“I remember we all got together and we sat down and listed everything we wanted an anniversary episode to be, and when we dug into it, we thought about what we wanted to celebrate EastEnders:; London, contemporary, compelling kind of stories and then obviously we have the shot of the Thames in the opening credits and you go ‘ah, there’s the idea!’ and it kind of came from there, really.”

EastEnders airs tonight on BBC One at 7.30pm
