Emmerdale viewers were quick to scold Victoria Sugden during this evening’s episode, as she left her gran’s ashes on top of her car.
The young chef, played by Isobel Hodgins, returned to the village after Annie Sudden’s funeral, carrying her remains in an urn.
As soon as she arrived, she ran into Wendy and plonked the weighty vessel of ashes on top of her car.
Speaking to Wendy, Vic made it clear the funeral had helped her to appreciate her grandmother’s zest for life, as she sped to meet ex-boyfriend Luke Posner.
However, over on Twitter, certain viewers were enraged to see the way Annie’s remains were being carelessly handled on the screen.
An Emmerdale original, Annie – played by Sheila Mercier – was a beloved character on the soap until her sudden exit in the 80s.
One viewer scoffed: “Poor Annie back on emmerdale on roof of car,, why doesn’t Vic scatter her ashes on the site of the old farm for posterity sake.”
Another fumed: “Oh treat her with more grace and dignity than putting her on top of a car.”
While a third wrote: “Oh please tell me your not leaving Annie’s ashes on top of the car roof Victoria!”

“I dont think leaving Annies ashes on car roof is going to end well,” agreed a fourth.
Later, Vic embraced Luke in the Woolpack, revealing she had decided to accept her true feelings for him.
Breaking the news of their romantic reconciliation to Wendy later in the day, Vic exclaimed: “We’re starting again!”
Looking a little perplexed, Wendy said: “Oh that’s lovely! I couldn’t be happier for the pair of you.”

Privately, she turned to Luke and asked what had brought on Vic’s change of heart, after she ended their relationship months previously.
Referring to the late Annie, Luke said: “Her gran, I think. Life is for the living, she reckons.”
Can Vic and Luke help Annie’s spirit to live on in Emmerdale?
Emmerdale airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
