Fitness model and online influencer Alex Crockford has insisted just because millions of us are stuck in self-isolation it doesn’t mean we have to fall into lethargic slumber.
The buff personal trainer has told Daily Star Online how using simple household furniture such as the sofa can be used to help you tone and build muscle.
Speaking to Daily Star Online, Alex, whose HomeFit plans are available via his CROCKFIT app, said: “As we all look to self isolate, it comes with a whole new way of life, routine and structure.
“It’s really important to create a new routine that includes time to get or stay active for the body and mind.
“Home workouts, using just your body, are just as effective as being in the gym or workout class and that’s how I’m keeping up my wellbeing and overall fitness.”

The buff PT continued: “No equipment is needed to create a big calorie burn, strength workout for building muscle or something to stimulate your mind and mental health – there are so many options here.”
Alex’s words come as Prime Minster Boris Johnson ordered cafés, pubs, clubs, restaurants and gyms to close up and down the UK.
Here we run down Alex’s top tips for home workouts two to three times a week for 15 to 25 minutes.

The Sofa Workout:
For split squats, start with standing facing away from the sofa and place one foot behind you on the platform.
Bend your standing leg into a lunge but keeping your foot flat on the floor.
Bend as low as you can and stand back up. This is great for the legs and bum.
For the tricep dip, sit on the sofa and bring your fingers off the edge. Drop your bum off the sofa and start bending your arms to drop your body down.
Once you’ve bent your elbows and dropped your body low, start to put yourself back up until your arms are straight. This will strengthen and tone the back of your arms.

Body weight workouts:
The best body weight exercises are squats, lunges, mountain climbers, planks, burpees, Russian twists and leg raisers.
Squats and lunges are great for toning up your lower body, legs and bum.
Mountain climbers, planks, Russian twists and leg raises are good for toning your stomach and strengthening the core.
Cardio exercises such as burpees, running on the spot and jumping jacks are great for burning calories – ideal for burning fat.

However, it isn’t just physical workouts that are important to keep upbeat. Alex insists that mental health is now more important than ever before.
“As important as it is to stay active and workout, keeping a check of your mind and mental wellbeing also plays just as important a roll,” Alex continued.
“Ways you can do this include 10 to 15 minutes a day of meditation, 30 minutes of yoga to focus on your body’s mobility and working through tension and simply turning of your phone for a period of time.”
Alex’s HomeFit plans on the CROCKFIT app are 50% off and will remain at 50% off for the rest of the coronavirus outbreak
