GMB Ben Shephard mocks Dr Hilary's 'mullet' throwback as he celebrates birthday

Good Morning Britain was back on our screens today with Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins on presenting duty.

The presenting duo were on top form on Friday as one of the ITV breakfast show team turned another year older.

The GMB cast and crew had reason to celebrate as it was Dr Hilary Jones’ birthday.

Ben and Charlotte marked the occasion by sharing several throwback photographs and footage of the health expert taken throughout his 27 year career on ITV.

The sweet videos went back as far as when Dr Hilary joined GMTV back in 1993.

“Yep, I’m in my prime now,” Dr Hilary said after Ben and Charlotte wished him a happy birthday.

“Yes you are in your prime, how many primes is it?” Ben joked.

“Quite a few,” Dr Hilary replied.

Tipping Point host Ben added: “It just shows how special and dear to us you are over the years.”

The cheeky presenter couldn’t resist in poking fun at Dr Hilary’s appearance in the old videos.

“A mullet, as well. Business at the front, party at the back. That’s always been your way hasn’t it Hils?”

Dr Hilary went on to reveal his birthday plans for the rest of his special day.

He said: “I think if the sun comes out later this afternoon, a little bit of sunshine, a little bit of bubbly maybe. Why not? Things that doctors do.”

In another cheeky dig, weather presenter Alex Beresford wished the birthday boy a “happy 70th birthday”, despite the heath expert turning 67.

Dr Hilary has been a regular fixture on ITV for almost three decades, and has been a particularly prominent figure throughout the coronavirus pandemic, where he has been sharing daily advice and guidance for the public.

GMB star Kate Garraway, 53, recently praised the 67-year-old doctor for supporting her as her husband Derek Draper battles coronavirus.

She revealed that Dr Hilary had been the one who told her to call an ambulance when Derek was struggling with his breathing.
