Today’s episode of Good Morning Britain saw a reporter travelling on a boat next to a migrant boat making a Channel crossing.
Senior News Correspondent Jonathan Swain was passed by the boat, and he chatted to hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway about what was going on live.
The boat had been shadowed by French border forces before being left to cross into English waters.
Kate was seemingly concerned as she remarked that the amount of people on the boat was unsafe, with one man even “bailing out water” to avoid sinking.
She said: “I don’t think that boat is designed to have so many people in it.”

Viewers were baffled as to why they were watching this occur, as the reporter repeatedly asked the people on the boat: “Are you okay?”
One viewer said: “Why are they filming them and zooming in on them like they’re animals?? #gmb”
While another wrote: “Wtf is going on, on #gmb watching illegal migrants cross the channel.”

A third added: “GMB The tiny boat in the channel is an emotional image. So small and vulnerable carrying the hopes and fortunes of a handful of desperate people. Illegal or not, at this stage they are close to tragedy if it starts to sink will need immediate help from your boat.”
“GMB Are you going to film a boat of migrants sink live on air??? ‘It’s a grey area, we may perhaps have to intervene’ YOU ARE WATCHING PEOPLE!”, said a fourth.

A fifth penned: “GMB those poor desperate men in that boat. I don’t like to see such peril. Hope they’re ok.”
The segment came as it was reported last month that the number of migrants crossing the Channel is to hit record 7,500 by Christmas, four times the rate last year, according to a recent study.
