Good Morning Britain was back on our screens today with Piers Morgan and Charlotte Hawkins on presenting duty.
Broadcaster Charlotte, 44, is currently covering for Susanna Reid, who is in self-isolation after one of her children developed a recurrent cough, but has shown no coronavirus symptoms herself.
Susanna, 49, still appeared on the show via video link this morning, and she has been since she’s been in quarantine.
ITV’s resident professional doctor, Dr Hilary Jones, joined Piers and Charlotte on the station’s breakfast show today to answer more questions as COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause chaos around the globe.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson issued a strict new curb on life in the UK last night in a bid to tackle the spread of the killer bug.
People may only leave home to exercise once a day, to travel to and from work where “absolutely necessary”, to shop for essential items, and to fulfil any medical or care needs.
Shops selling non-essential goods have been told to shut and gatherings in public of more than two people who do not live together will be prohibited.
Discussing coronavirus symptoms on GMB this morning, Piers asked Dr Hilary: “If you’re losing your sense of taste or smell, what do you do?”
The TV doctor replied: “Currently the Government’s advice is that is not a reason to self-isolate because there are so many other causes of tasted smell, a common cold or nasal congestion, allergy
Pier continued to ask: “If you’re an essential worker and you’re having this you go to work?”
Dr Hilary responded: “Yes, that is the current advice. The current advice for remains self-isolation, it’s a dry persistent cough or a fever.
“Otherwise there’d be too many people off and wed lose too many health care workers, but we need that testing to make sure they are safe.
Good Morning Britain has been extended this week until 10am to update viewers on the latest news regarding coronavirus.
Lorraine Kelly joins Piers from 9am until 10am, as she self-titled chat show has been rested for the foreseeable future.
