GMB's Kate Garraway says Jeremy Kyle helped her during moment of need

Kate Garraway said a sincere thank you to Jeremy Kyle on today’s Good Morning Britain, revealing the TV star had offered a kind favour in recent weeks.

Since her return to GMB last month, the 53-year-old has been juggling working and parenting along with constant trips back and forth between the hospital.

Her husband Derek Draper fell ill with coronavirus back in March, and though the 52-year-old no longer has the virus, it has wreaked havoc on his internal organs.

Speaking to her co-host Ben Shephard this morning, Kate explained she had been hoping to bring her children to see their grandparents, but feared they would pass on the virus.

However, TV presenter Jeremy Kyle, whose namesake show was axed last year, reached out to his longtime pal Kate and offered a helpful solution.

Kate explained the former Jeremy Kyle Show host generously volunteered his driver for the day, bringing her children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, to their grandparents in safety.

Opening up about the predicament, Kate said: “My children have gone for the first time to stay away from home – they’ve gone to stay with Derek’s mum and dad.

“Derek’s mum and dad have been shielding since the beginning of March because they both feel vulnerable. So this was a very big deal for them to have the children to stay, and also very important because they haven’t seen their grandchildren in a while.

“Very important for Billie and Darcey because they haven’t seen their grandparents as well.

“So one of the thing we did was to plan over several weeks what to do. So I thought, right, we have to be very clear – we have to isolate in the days before they leave to travel. I actually washed and packed Billy and Darcey’s clothes to seal them for quite a few days just in case there was anything problematic there.”

Kate said a personal “thank you” to Jeremy for his help, as she reflected on his helpful favour on the show.

She continued: “It was thanks to Jeremy Kyle that they travelled up – big thanks to him. Because he said, ‘Listen, my driver has been isolating and has been keeping the car very clean so I’ll take the children up.’

“Very, very kind of him, thank you very much Jeremy.”

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
