GMB's Richard Arnold leads calls for Dr Hilary Jones to be knighted

Good Morning Britain host Richard Arnold has led the calls for ITV’s resident medic Dr Hilary Jones to be given a knighthood.

The veteran entertainment editor made the comments during an appearance on Friday’s edition of the show hosted by Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh.

Speaking from his plush home in East London, Richard said: “Dr Hilary , you deserve a gold medal or a knighthood.

“My mum wasn’t necessarily listening to me but she will listen to you.

“She is 83 also she is in that vulnerable category, I’ve never done this throughout my career but I believe she is watching so ‘hello’ mum!”

The humble doc responded with a polite smile from the ITV studio in central London.

The call was echoed by countless Good Morning Britain viewers who have also called for the doc to be honoured.

One viewer wrote: “Dr Hilary Jones needs a knighthood for his calm and concise approach to this pandemic.”

Another added: “I say a knighthood for Dr Hilary a good idea to reward him for his service to the public.”

A third continued: “Dr. Hilary Jones has really come to the fore in this coronavirus pandemic.

“I think, if all is well, a New Year’s knighthood is in order. Arise Sir Hilary.”

GMB fans have echoed the calls for Dr Hilary to be knighted in the New Year

Meanwhile, a fourth praised: “Dr Hilary for a Knighthood after this is over. #GMB.”

Anybody in the UK can make a recommendation for member of the public to receive an honour.

Each honour is awarded for services to a specific industry and handed out twice a year – at the Queen’s birthday and New Years Eve.
