GMB's Susanna Reid slams government over coronavirus testing in fiery diss

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid wasted no time in letting rip at government officials today for their slowness to hit their own coronavirus testing targets.

Minutes into Wednesday’s show, Piers Morgan’s co-star raged: “Yesterday, hearing again that the protective equipment is being sent out to hospitals when medical staff in hospitals are saying ‘we are not getting it'”.

Hearing the government say ‘we are ramping up testing’ when we know they are still way below the testing 10,000 daily tests that they promised weeks ago.

“They have got to be honest and transparent and explain why these things are not happening rather than saying one thing at the podium when people in hospitals are experiencing something completely different.”

Susanna passionately added: “That is what gets in the way of trusting the government.”

Despite the criticism of the UK government, currently the United Kingdom is the fourth most tested country for Covid-19 in the world – though all admit more must be done.

The delays have been attributed to a lack of availability of the parts needed for the tests.

Susanna passionately defended the need for the NHS to have more supplies

In comparison Germany are testing 500,000 people a week.

Letting rip at a government official appearing on the show via video link from Herefordshire, Piers added “Germany is testing ten times as many of its citizens a day then we are.

“That is a disgrace. Why?

“How have we got to stage like that when we have known for a while that testing is the crucial to beat this.”

Trying to explain his view of the situation, MP Robert Jenrick replied: “We want to test far more people.

“We are now increasing supplies. The UK’s figures are that we have capacity to test 12,750 individual a day and hat can rise to 15,000 in a few days.

“Different countries have different strengths. I think with ventilators are will see that is a British strength.

“We have 8,000 today and we have ordered 8,000 an extra ventilators from existing providers and we have worked with more new providers.”
