The star was best known for played Superintendent Barney Crozier in detective drama Bergerac, which was on air in the 80s.
He also played headmaster Mr Llewellyn in Grange Hill during the 70s and 80s, before starring in a number of UK films, and appeared as the Chief Constable Merseybeat.

“He was also a very eccentric dresser and would always stand out.
“I saw him at his book event and after that I was aware he was ill but the news still came as a shock.
“It would have been wonderful to have worked with him on the new project, and I am sure he will be sadly missed by Islanders.”
Sean decided to move to Jersey after starring in the detective series.
His last public appearance was in November last year as he joined John at the Jersey Museum for a reunion of the extras who also appeared in the series. The event was held to launch Sean’s book, Anton Myst.
Sean’s cremation is set to take place this week, and only one of his family members will be allowed to fly to Jersey to attend, according to current lockdown rules.
