Harvey Weinstein, who was found guilty of two counts of third degree rape and criminal sexual assault earlier this year, reportedly suffered from acute genital infection Fournier’s gangrene in the 1990s.
Diabetics and middle-aged men are particularly prone to the grisly condition.
According to a three-part series in Air Mail, from Graydon Carter’s Digital News Weekly, the 68-year-old had to be transported out of St Barts to get medical help for his problems.
Symptoms of Fournier’s gangrene include pain and swelling around the genitals, an unpleasant odour from the affected skin and a crackling sound heard when touching the affected area.

Harvey’s genitals were first brought into conversation at his rape trial earlier this year.
One of his accusers, Jessica Mann, detailed abnormalities on his genitals that left her thinking he could be “intersex”.
She told Manhattan’s Supreme Court in February: “The first time I saw him fully naked, I felt, I thought he was deformed and intersex.
“He has extreme scarring that I didn’t know if maybe he was a burn victim.

“He does not have testicles and it appears like he has a vagina.”
In the trial, photos of Weinstein’s naked body were shown to the jury rather than being shown on a large screen so as not to “humiliate” the defendant, according to Manhattan Assistant DA Joan Illuzi.
Air Mail author Phoebe Eaton went on to claim that Harvey’s “hapless assistants” had to inject his penis with Caverjact to help blood flow before sex.
The disgraced director was sentenced to 23 years behind bars after his trial.
It took the jury five days to come back with a guilty verdict on two counts of third degree rape and criminal sexual assault.
However they did not convict a charge of predatory sexual assault, which could carry a life sentence.
Weinstein is currently serving his sentence at Wende Correctional Facility as he awaits a second trial in Los Angeles.
