Jim Carrey feared for his life after receiving scary missile attack warning

Jim Carrey has told how he was left fearing for his life after receiving a warning that a ballistic missile was going to smash into Hawaii.

The Hollywood legend recalled in an interview that he thought he had been left with just 10 minutes to live after receiving a text from the state’s emergency alert system in January 2018.

The message advised people to “seek immediate shelter”, and warned that the event was “not a drill”.

Carey later found out that the Hawaii authorities had made a blunder by sending the alert to 1.4 million residents by mistake during an emergency drill.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, he told how he desperately contacted loved ones and looked out at the sea as he pondered what to do for his last few minutes.

He said: ““I started going: ‘Okay, what can I do with this last moment of time?’.

“I just decided to go through a list of gratitudes and, honest to God, I just could not stop thinking of wonderful things that have happened to me and blessings I’ve had.

“It was lovely, and I got to a point of grace at about two minutes to spare when I found out it wasn’t actually happening.

“All I was planning to do was closing my eyes and be thankful because it’s been a good ride.”

He added the situation felt “completely real”.

He also told how he tried to get off the island, before realising he wouldn’t be able to do that in time.

The actor revealed the front cover of his semi-autobiographical novel Memoirs and Misinformation , shows his face after he received the news.

He joked he “got p***ed off and heads rolled” when he found out that the threat was not real.

Carrey was called ‘sleazy’ by enraged social media users in February over remarks to a female journalist.

The uneasy interview opened as Charlotte asked the Hollywood actor: “Is there anything still left on your bucket list?”

Much to the surprise of online viewers, the Dumb and Dumber star said: “Just you.”
