John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman denied parole for 11th time

John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, has been denied parole for the 11th time.

Chapman will remain behind bars for at least another two years, a representative for the New York parole board confirmed.

He will now have to wait two years before he can get another hearing with the Board, and he’s scheduled to appear again in August 2022.

He was last denied parole in 2018 because the Board determined his release would be “incompatible with the welfare and safety of society”.

There has yet to be an indication as to why he has been denied parole this time around.

Chapman shot Lennon outside of the singer’s apartment at the Dakota, in Manhattan, on December 8, 1980.

Following the shooting, Chapman, who had just resigned from a job as a security guard in Hawaii, remained at the scene reading J. D. Salinger’s novel The Catcher in the Rye until he was arrested by police.

He is serving a 20-year-to-life sentence at Wende Correctional Facility in New York.

Chapman, who admitted the murder was motivated by a thirst for notoriety, was first eligible for parole in 2000.

In previous hearings, he told how he was still receiving anguished letters about the pain he caused by murdering a revered musician.

Ono, who married Lennon in 1969, had previously opposed Chapman’s release, saying she feared for her safety and that of Lennon’s two sons, Julian and Sean, should he be freed.

Chapman had been a fan of the Beatles and hours before the shooting, the Imagine hitmaker had signed a book for him.

He pled guilty to second-degree murder.
