Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has revealed coronavirus has severely damaged husband Derek Draper’s body and made him “very, very diabetic”.
In a new interview, the distraught ITV star shared how the deadly virus has caused holes in her husband’s heart, inflicted nerve, liver and kidney damage, and meant that he now needs a tracheotomy to help him breathe.
Derek has been in hospital for teen weeks after first being diagnosed with Covid-19.
Opening up, Kate said: “So they could finally see the damage they hadn’t been able to see before. The virus has just attacked everything.
“He’s got a tracheotomy now, so he’s breathing through that, and his lungs, which have clots, are showing some sign of recovery.

The comments came after Kate, 53, revealed on GMB to co-stars Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh yesterday that Derek has now overcome Covid-19, bit she’s still not sure whether he’ll pull through.
Kate learned of the extent that the virus has ravaged her husband’s body after doctors gave him an MRI scan to access the damage following weeks of him being hooked up to so much equipment he couldn’t be moved.
Her husband of 15 years was admitted to hospital on March 30 where he was initially diagnosed and a few weeks later placed in an induced coma to give his lungs a break.
It has been a extremely emotional time for TV favourite and former I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here star Kate, who has admitted she is trying as much as possible to stay positive for the couple’s two kids Darcey, 14, and William, 11.
Continuing to talk to The Sun, she said of Derek’s treatment in hospital: “They’ve been trying for the past three weeks to bring him out and he’s not regaining consciousness.
“If you don’t regain it in the first two or three days then that’s when they start talking about weeks, months, even a year.”

Talking on GMB yesterday, Kate said of Derek: “He’s still with us, it’s a battle. We’re so grateful he’s holding on, we’re praying and hoping.
“The fight over the virus has been won, he’s still here. But it’s done extraordinary damage to his body, we don’t know if he can recover.”
Revealing their last phone call before Derek was put in a coma, Kate added: “He said I love you, I’m sorry I have to leave you.
“He said you saved my life, he thought I had pushed for the coma but then he said it wasn’t just that it was the marriage and the kids.”
Kate and Derek are parents to daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 10.
