Kate Garraway made a heartwarming confession on Good Morning Britain today, as she revealed she has been writing a diary for her husband Derek Draper.
Since Derek was admitted to hospital with coronavirus earlier this year, the 53-year-old presenter has been recording notes about the experience for his doctors to read.
Derek’s condition quickly became critical back in March, and while his body has been rid of the virus, Covid wreaked havoc on his internal organs.
Speaking with a coronavirus survivor on today’s GMB, Kate confessed the diary is a way for her to share information about Derek with the doctors and nurses who care for him.
Writer Michael Rosen appeared on the show, discussing his personal battle with Covid, which left him near death when his organs began to fail.

Michael explained: “The nurses who looked after me wrote little diary entries and letters to me when they came off duty.
“There are pages of accounts of what they saw me in the state I was in. It is so moving and incredible, it’s wonderful.”
Hearing about the diary that had meant so much to Michael, Kate replied: “The team around you that started a journal for you is something I’ve started with Derek.”

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the journal, she continued: “In the early stages the team were just so focused on medical life or death, there wasn’t a second, because they were so overstretched, to do something like that.
“Now I’ve started it I’ve found it really helpful as a relative.
“Because staff change, for them to come back and look at things from the day before helps them to know the patient who is in a state of unconsciousness.
“It’s a wonderful idea and it’s wonderful you’ve got that.”
Though Derek is currently in a state of “minimum consciousness,” Kate and their children, Darcey and Billy, are still hopeful the dad-of-two could make a recovery.
Speaking to her co-stars Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid last week, she said: “Of course there’s fantastic hope that he’s still alive.
“The doctors do keep saying that its a miracle that he’s still alive.”
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
