Kate Garraway has opened up about family life, amid husband Derek Draper’s health battle, in a brand new interview.
The Good Morning Britain star, 53, shared what she, Derek and their two children – Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, – did together on their last normal day as a family ahead of Derek, also 53, being rushed into hospital.
Speaking in You magazine, the presenter who returns to her show on Smooth FM tomorrow, shared that their last day together as a family saw them have a “lovely time” as they carried out their normal activities together.

Speaking about what they all got up to, Kate revealed: “We had such a lovely time – we’d been waiting ages to put in sliding patio doors to our back garden – not a very rock and roll or romantic topic for brunch, I know, but we were so excited about the chance to make plans,” she told You magazine.
“After we discussed that, Derek said, ‘I fear a lockdown is coming; while we’re in isolation it’s a good time to print out the photos of the kids to put on the wall.’ So then we went to B&Q to get some picture frames.”

Just 24 hours later, former political lobbyist Derek was rushed into hospital, after feeling increasingly under-the-weather.
As he wasn’t showing any commonly-associated coronavirus symptoms, he did not at first think he was suffering from Covid-19, instead he thought he was having an adverse reaction to the painkillers he was taking for a shoulder injury.

Derek was placed into a medically-induced coma, which he was taken out of three months later in June.
He has managed to regain the lowest form of consciousness and is now free of coronavirus, however, he still faces a major health battle, as Covid-19 has caused major damage to his body, leaving him with organ, cell and blood vessel damage.
Due to visiting restrictions, Darcey and Billy have been unable to visit their dad in hospital, but Kate is allowed to go and see her husband occasionally.
