Keith Lemon admits he's 'had a rubbish day' after Bo' Selecta apology

Leigh Francis, the comedian behind Keith Lemon, informed his online following he’s had “a rubbish day” just hours after he publicly apologised for his “offensive” Bo’ Selecta characters.

On Thursday evening, the Celebrity Juice star took to Instagram expressing regret over his portrayals of black people on the Channel 4 sketch show.

Hours after he uploaded the emotional video, he posted a snap of a sewing machine, admitting he hasn’t had the best of days.

He wrote: “Since lockdown, I’ve become a dressmaker. Haven’t actually, but I have learnt to sew a bit. Made four t-shirts. Who needs the shops!

“Hope you’ve had a nice day! Mine’s has been incredibly rubbish. Goodnight x.”

The snap comes after he opened up about his former sketch show, which saw the star wear caricature-style masks to portray a variety of celebs including Craig David, Mel B and Michael Jackson.

Bo’ Selecta ran from 2002 to 2004 and quickly gained popularity – and propelled funnyman Leigh to fame in the UK.

Speaking about the programme, he said: “I portrayed many black people. Back then I didn’t think anything about it, people didn’t say anything, I’m not going to blame other people.

“I’ve been talking to some people and I didn’t realise how offensive it was back then.

“And I just wanna apologise and, you know, say sorry for any upset I caused.

“I guess we’re all on a learning journey,” he concluded.

Above the video, he wrote: “I’m on a constant journey of knowledge and just wanted to say I’m deeply sorry,” and added the hashtag ‘Black Lives Matter’.

Denise Van Outen wrote: “We all love you”, while First Dates star Fred Sirieix said: “You are a kind man, Leigh”.

Other celebrities including his former Celeb juice co-star Holly Willoughby and Ashley Roberts, posted love heart emojis.
