Former Coronation Street cast member Kym Marsh has hit back at Sherrie Hewson, who played Maureen Webster on the soap, after she said the current stars are “sloppy” with the way they turn up to work.
Kym, who left the soap as Michelle Connor in December, said that nowadays the cast “don’t get the luxury” of enough spare time.
She said in her OK! magazine column: “I agree. Things have changed but I think the stars of the soaps have changed with the times.
“It wouldn’t make sense for us to be glammed up because we’d have to get that all stripped off.”

She went on: “Shows like Coronation Street also have more episodes now than they used to, which means we son’t get the luxury of rehearsals and days on set can be 12 hours.”
Sherrie said on the Distinct Nostalgia podcast: “There used to be a tradition of glamour. People used to dress up to came to work.
“I think maybe it is a generational thing. Bill Roache was always smart. He always wore a suit.

“Barbara Knox was the queen of the street and she still is. Everything immaculate, you know – the clothes, the hair…”
She added: “I always took that from her. Like, ‘You should always look fabulous when you come to work. Not sloppy.’
“It is different. Everybody has got running clothes on as they are just about to go for a run before they go to work. I loved the glamour.”
Sherrie appeared in Corrie between 1993 1997, before having another stint in 2006.
In the years since then she has appeared on Loose Women, Benidorm and Celebrity Big Brother.
Meanwhile, Kym, who played Michelle between 2006 and 2019, has also moved on to new television jobs.
Most recently she’s been showcasing her hosting chops on The One Show.
Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV
