Lena Dunham describes scary long-term coronavirus symptoms as 'rave gone wrong'

Lena Dunham has opened up about her horrific coronavirus story, sharing a lengthy text post to Instagram.

The Girls creator and star shared a photo of herself wearing a red and white lace face mask as she opened up.

The 34-year-old explained that she was diagnosed with Covid-19 in March and her symptoms were mild at first.

Lena explained: “It started with achy joints, which I was unable to distinguish from my usual diagnoses, so I didn’t freak out.

“But the pain was soon joined by an impossible, crushing fatigue. Then, a fever of 102 [degrees Fahrenheit].

“Suddenly my body simply… revolted. The nerves in my feet burned and muscles wouldn’t seem to do their job. My hands were numb. I couldn’t tolerate loud noises.

“I couldn’t sleep but I couldn’t wake up. I lost my sense of taste and smell. A hacking cough, like a metronome keeping time.

“Inability to breathe after simple tasks like getting a glass of water. Random red rashes. A pounding headache right between my eyes.

“It felt like I was a complex machine that had been unplugged and then had my wires re-routed into the wrong inputs.”

She added that her initial symptoms lasted for 21 days in what felt like a “rave gone wrong”.

However when she tested negative for the virus after a month, the effects did not go away.

The actress listed lasting symptoms including swollen hands and feet, an “unceasing” migraine and intense fatigue.

She explained that doctors diagnosed her with clinical adrenal insufficiency, saying her pituitary gland had “almost entirely ceased to function”.

On top of that, they diagnosed her with “status migrainosis” which is a migraine which won’t stop.

Her arthritis flared up and needed medication that was hard on her body.

Lena also admitted “there are weirder symptoms that [she’ll] keep to [herself]”.

She commended doctors for all the work they are doing with trying to figure out what the virus does and how to stop it, while also mentioned experts dealing with prevention techniques.

However in the final slide Lena urged her followers to “protect yourself and your neighbours” to “save them a world of pain”.

Her 2.9million followers shared their well wishes with the star.

Actress Demi Moore said: “Thank you for sharing Lena.”

Writer Jen Pastiloff wrote: “So sorry you went through this. Thank you for sharing.”

While one fan said: “I am currently struggling with Covid. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing.”
