Lorraine Kelly was forced to apologise over a mix-up on Good Morning Britain today, during an interview with comedian Jason Manford.
The funnyman had recently been rejected for a job as a customer assistant with Tesco, sharing his rejection letter over Twitter.
Bringing up the failed job offer, Lorraine accidentally mistook Tesco for Asda as she quizzed him about the incident.
Looking solemn, Jason replied: “It was Tesco.”
Covering her face with her hands and erupting into giggles, Lorraine exclaimed: “Oh I’m sorry! Maybe Asda would have taken you but not Tesco.”
Forgiving the slip-up, Jason replied: “I used to work for Asda twenty-odd years ago stacking shelves.”
Later in the show, Jason praised key workers such as supermarket employees, urging the public to give them the respect they deserve.
He said: “We’ve all been guilty of overlooking a shop worker.
Before adding: “One of the things I hope is that we have a newfound appreciation for these people.”
After Tesco turned down the offer, supermarket giant Iceland was quick to take Jason up on his application, offering him a job.
Their official account tweeted: “Our door is always open for you. Help us out for the day and we’ll make a donation to the NHS in your name.”
Taking them up on the offer, Jason asked that his wages be donated to his charity, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust.
He said: “I’m on it Iceland. Happy to do a shift if you can donate my wages to the charity I’m a patron of, @CAFTcharity.”
Known as CAFT, the charity offers holidays and day trips to ill, disabled and disadvantaged children living in the North West of England.
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV
