Lorraine Kelly breaks down in tears on final day before lengthy ITV break

Lorraine Kelly was left in tears at the end of her ITV show today.

The presenter is taking a lengthy break from her show for the summer and is returning in September.

Lorraine, 60, became emotional after a montage was shown of various celebrities was aired where they praised her for showing up amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Stars on the video included singer Craig David and actress Helen Mirren.

After the clip was shown, Lorraine was seen grabbing a tissue as she burst into tears.

The show’s style expert Mark Heyes was also emotional as he was in tears too.

Lorraine them addressed the audience as she said: “Thank you everyone for watching. My team have been fantastic.”

The host then said medical expert Dr Hilary deserved to be “knighted”.

However he replied: “No, it’s those on the frontline that should be.”

Lorraine also said she was “going to need a big lie down” after the show.

Presenter Lorraine will be replaced by Andi Peters while she is away.

Andi is the first man in over a decade to host the programme.

The last man to host the show was Michael Ball for a few instalments back in 2010.

Andi, who currently presents the competition slots on the show, told Daily Mirror: “I love Lorraine, I’ve known her for ten years, I’m on her show every day with competitions and it’s great to be part of that family. So, sitting in for her is an honour, Lorraine is an institution.

“As much as I adore always giving away money on the competition slots, I’m looking forward to chatting to people and having a whole hour to actually relax into it.

“I’m a bit of a chatterbox. I’ll enjoy having guests on, who want to have a bit of a chinwag and also to be able to do some serious stuff.

“I am happy and jolly, and that will always be there, but obviously I do have an opinion. The good thing about ITV Daytime is that we are allowed to have opinions.”

He added: “We are not censored in that way, we are allowed to bring them to the table. I can’t wait to see how guests react to that. I’m genuinely really excited.”

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am
