Lorraine Kelly has opened up about traumatically suffering from a miscarriage when her daughter was five.
The ITV presenter, who shares 24-year-old daughter Rosie with husband Steve Smith, said their loss was a “difficult time” for both of them, but noticed some people were only sympathetic towards her.
Talking about the upsetting experience the Scottish presenter said: “That was a really difficult time and I think yes of course we should absolutely sympathise with the women who go through this but nobody asked after Steve.
“Nobody ever said, ‘How are you?’ The only people who did funnily enough were friends that experienced it themselves and sadly as we know, far too many people experience it.
“I think we’ve got to be a bit more considerate about everyone and not just partners but extended family.”

However, Lorraine, 60, said speaking out about the couple’s loss helped her grieve.
During an interview on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, she continued: “It was really sad but what did help me though was being open and talking about it at the time because obviously I’m off work and you need to tell people why.
“That wasn’t easy but the response I got from viewers was unbelievable.
“I thought it was important to be honest. I felt we had to because viewers were asking what was wrong.”
The host went on to say she never dreamed of being a mum and was totally surprised to learn of her first pregnancy with Rosie.

Despite being in her early thirties at the time, she said she didn’t believe she was “grown up enough” and admitted she felt overwhelmed by the couple’s baby joy.
Lorraine was commuting from their home in Scotland to her work commitments in London at the time.
She has previously praised hubby Steve for being a “hands-on dad” to Rosie while she worked away.
In her book Shine, Lorraine said: “I couldn’t do what I do without him. He was such a great hands-on dad to Rosie when I was away working for those 13 years, commuting from our home in Scotland to London to do the show [before they moved].”
